Rural Generation Ltd work in collaboration with Laqua Treatment AB of Sweden to produce bio-filtration systems suitable for sewage effluent and dirty water from agri-food businesses and leachates from landfills.

A typical system consists of a settlement or aeration tank from which effluent is filtered and pumped out onto a willow plantation via pressure equalised irrigation equipment. The effluent is distributed over the field using irrigation pipes laid above ground. The rate of flow is controlled by a computer management system linked to solenoid valves in the field. This effectively creates several zones within the irrigation area so that different rates can be applied to different areas depending upon site conditions.

To ensure this method of water purification is economically viable, the most suitable scenario is to set up the willow plantation and automated pressure compensated irrigation system as close to the treatment site as physically possible. The next best set-up is to pump the effluent a limited distance to the site; maximum approx 2 Km.
